Obama’s Legerdemain

with the release of the torture documents, obama has scored a coup. on the one hand, he placates many (although certainly not all) who have called for such disclosure. on the other hand, with his repeated statements that he will not prosecute those responsible, he has told the citizenry “tough, that’s what i’m going to, do and you can’t do anything about it.” and the citizenry will, once again, do nothing. and every time we do nothing, we embolden the government to do more. and every time we do nothing, we make doing anything that much less likely. what a bunch of losers we are.
